Instructor Training

The Instructor Training course of study consists of 600 clock hours and may be completed in 4 months with full time attendance or 6 months with part time attendance.

PREREQUISITES:

  1. Must have current Washington State Operator License
  2. Meet admission requirements of Total Cosmetology Training Center.

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION


The Instructor Trainee Course introduces and prepares the students for a career in instructional methods in the Cosmetology industry as mandated by the Washington State Department of Licensing. The course consists of 150 hours of classroom, assigned study, 450 hours of assisted clinical supervision.

At the completion of this course, the student will:

  1. Have knowledge and understanding of the basic principals of teaching.
  2. Be able to perform all the tasks taught in this course, following proper procedures.
  3. Be capable of advancing to the clinical supervision level of Cosmetology, Manicuring, Barbering, Esthetics School.
  4. Be prepared for the Washington State Instructor Exam.

COURSE FORMAT
 

The first 150 hours will be spent learning the basic instructional skills such as lesson planning, personal and professional conduct, classroom management, evaluation methods and procedures. The remaining 450 hours consist of assisting, observing and supervising clinic activities. Planning and conducting theory classes. The student will utilize acquired techniques involving creativity, visual aids, and proven teaching strategies under the supervision of the assigned licensed instructor trainer. All subjects taught shall be tested by a series of written and practical exams designed to measure student’s knowledge and skills at 40 and 500 hours. Students are required to attend one hour of theory class each day Tuesday through Saturday.
