PREREQUISITES:
- Meet state
requirements as students in the Washington Cosmetologist, Barbers,
Esthetician, and Manicurist Act.
- Meet admission
requirements of Total Cosmetology Training Center.
COURSE
DESCRIPTION
The basic course in Esthetics
introduces and prepares the students for the job entry level as
mandated by the Washington State Department of Licensing. The course
will prepare the student with the background in Skin Care, Facials,
Temporary Removal of Superfluous Hair, Salon (business) Management,
Sanitation, and Salesmanship.
COURSE
OBJECTIVES
At the completion of this course, the student will:
- Have knowledge
and understanding of the basic principals relating to the Esthetics
profession.
- Be able to
perform all the tasks taught in this course, following proper
procedures.
- Be capable
of advancing to the clinical practice level of learned information
and skills.
- Be prepared
for the Washington State Esthetician Exam.

Milady Publishing Corporation, Albany, New York.
ESTHETICS FORMAT
The first 175 hours will be spent learning the basic mechanical
skills of each course, such as methods and procedures of practical
operation (as well as practice), implement safety, sanitation, ethics,
and law. Classes are conducted Tuesday through Saturday. The student
will then have one hour of theory class each day. Class demonstrations
and lectures on various subjects are held throughout the course.
The clinic is
a departmentalized laboratory where the student rotates through
the assigned area of esthetics. The student takes assignments at
the reception desk as well as the dispensary laboratory to learn
safety in storing, mixing, and applying product chemistry. Students
working in the clinical area are given individual classes while
being actively engaged with the public. All subjects taught shall
be tested by a series of written and practical exams designed to
measure student's knowledge and skills at 40 and 550 hours. 25%
of work done on mannequins, 75% live services.
